True Inspiration - Lemonade War!!!!

1,2,3,4… We declare a LEMONADE war!

Based on The Lemonade War book series by Jacqueline Davies, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer recently announced a nationwide contest designed to make reading matter, while raising vital funds for childhood cancer research. Schools across the United States are invited to follow in the footsteps of the characters from The Lemonade War and challenge other schools to raise the most money through a lemonade stand or other lemonade event. This is a great way to teach your students about business concepts, making Text-to-World connections and most importantly, making reading matter.

The school that raises the most money through their fundraising initiative will win an author visit from Jacqueline Davies, as well as one of Alex’s parents, Liz or Jay Scott. In addition, every student (up to 100) will be provided with an autographed copy of the next two books in the series, The Lemonade Crime and The Bell Bandit. Registration for the War will open at the beginning of February and will be on a first come, first served basis. Registered schools will have exactly 1 month (April 2nd to May 2nd) to fund-raise and submit funds to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $50 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 200 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
