What do you do to help your emergent readers feel successful?
This year, I created single-paged Emergent Student Readers for my students to keep in a folder called their "Student Reader" folder. Each reader contains certain sight words that are repeated throughout the page. The sentence structure varies from line to line, encouraging the child to focus on the actual text and not just rely on a predictable pattern.
I have really enjoyed watching my little literacy learners grow and feel successful with their own reading! They are so proud of their own successes, that they repeatedly ask to take the readers home to read to their loved ones. I just uploaded my second set and included Home Readers for the students to read at home!
