Making It As A Middle School Teacher...Checking In for Duty :)

Happy Sunday to each of you!

My name is Michelle Lundy from Making It As A Middle School Teacher {and smiling about it at the end of the day}.

I am over-the-moon excited to be a new author for TBA!  I had to look twice to make sure I was reading my e-mail correctly last Thursday...then pick my jaw up off the floor.

Here's a bit about me.

I'm from Georgia.  I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 22 years and we have 3 sons who are 17, 19, and 21.  We have 4 dogs, 1 cat, 1 chinchilla, and my classroom pet, Skilpad {an African Aquatic Sideneck Turtle}.

I've been teaching 5-1/2 years {I started with a mid-year position} and I've taught 6th - 8th grades.  Up until this year, I taught my passion, Math.  Due to some rearranging and budget cuts this year, my school needed someone who could teach Science and Social Studies.  Yours truly was certified, so you can tell how the rest of the story goes.  However, I am moving back to Math next year, but I'll still teach 1 Social Studies class as well.

Although I am a middle school teacher and blogger, many of my products and ideas do reach to lower grades as well.  In fact, I've had more that one co-worker tell me my classroom looks like an elementary classroom because it's so bright and colorful!  I love things that look fun and inviting.  I like my products to look cute.  I want my students to have fun.  If that means I have an elementary teacher personality hiding in my brain somewhere...then so be it!

I began blogging last July as Michelle's Math in the Middle, but had to step back after a couple of months due to teaching the 2 new content areas this school year and feeling a bit a ton overwhelmed.  By December, I had pulled myself back together.  I re-named my blog to better reflect my current teaching arrangement, then I hit the ground running with a new-found passion to share what I was doing in my classroom.  I also realized just how much I had missed blogging and being a part of this awesome on-line community.  I have never looked back!

This is how I sum up my blog:

You'll find lessons, tasks, and activities for Math, Science, and Social Studies, as well as ideas for all the other 'stuff' we have to do - like Bullying Prevention, Advisement Programs, Clubs etc...  I'll also pass along great technology tips, videos, and graphic printable for you.  Along the way, I'll share strategies for staying organized and motivated so that you can not only Make It As A Middle School Teacher, but smile about it at the end of the day!

Blogging has definitely, without a doubt, made me a better teacher!  Along the way, I've 'met' so many amazing people {who I feel I can call friends} that never fail to inspire and encourage me.

I'd love for you to check out my blog and my Facebook page.  You can also find me on Twitter and Pinterest.

Enjoy!  :)
