Decimals, fractions, percents...and converting between the three is SO very difficult for my students. We have tried all of the hands-on work, looked at the algorithm, and had plenty of practice. But the students are simply not getting it! So I have resorted to my last, final push...memorization.
We started with the students creating foldables for each of the most common fractions. They then got to play 3 different games I created, all helping with a different aspect of the fraction/decimal/percent process. So far, it seems to be working.
Come over to Teaching in Room 6 with me to read in greater detail how I am helping my students to commit these basic conversions to memory, as well as pick up your free copy of the Bingo game my kids are playing. I have no doubt your kids will love it as much as mine do!
