Organizing for a Substitute

Now I'm not the most organized person in the world, but substitutes do appreciate some organization! Nothing is worse than coming into a classroom and not knowing where any of the supplies or materials are, especially if we have to use it for teaching a lesson.

I subbed in a class today where the teacher is SUPER organized. More than anyone I know. But she has some great ideas that I love and that I want to share with you.

If you do morning work with the kids, lay out the day before or have a kid lay them out. When I came into the room, I saw this:

How nice is that for me?

All the important places kids had to go, which kids I needed to keep an eye on, who the helpful children are, and any medical issues I should know about.

Her reading materials never leave a certain spot, they are always there.

All her materials are super organized and the kids know it too, so they help keep things organized too.

With everything so organized, including the lessons and all the important info I needed to know, this helped my day go by smoothly. The kids went on with their day without a hitch and I had no real behavior problems. Thanks to this teacher's organization!
