Physics With First Graders

PhotobucketThis week many students around the country are taking standardized tests.  Nowadays, students not only need to be able to quickly interpret data, but they also need to be able to make connections to it.  What does this graph mean?
Today my students learned about the most simplistic form of this in our hands-on Angry Birds unit!  We are studying graphs in math & simple machines in science.  We built catapults based on the popular game "Angry Birds."  We created marshmallow "birds" and popsicle stick catapults.

The unique part was videotaping the launches and running them through a super cheap ($2.99) physics program to create a graph of a real-life event.
