Enormous Watermelon Fun!

Friends~I am dabbling a bit in summer themes and next week I am going to crack a watermelon and enjoy some reading, writing, and math with that yummy treat!

Have you read The Enormous Watermelon by Brenda Parks and Judith Smith?  It is a fun and easy read that brings repetition and nursery rhyme characters together.  I am planning on reading this tale and my students will do a variety of activities such as writing a list of synonyms for enormous and retelling the story with nursery rhyme cards.

We will also be making and reading a 12 page mini All About Watermelon book!

We can't have fun with Watermelons with out a Seed Spitting measuring activity!  I am going to grab a small watermelon to award the winner with when we tally our results!

You can check out more about my Wacky Watermelon Unit over at The Schroeder Page.  Be sure to stop by and download my Watermelon Play Dough Recipe!  I am adding it to my Working With Words Center for a review of sight words!
