Memorial Day Book Pick

div style="text-align: center;"> Happy Memorial Day! Today I'm remembering with gratitude all of the brave men and women who serve on our behalf along with those heroic men and women and their families who have given the ultimate sacrifice so that we can be safe and free. My favorite picture book to create awareness about the plight of military children is Sometimes We Were Brave by Pat Brisson.

The author tells Jerome's tale in the first person to lend authenticity and credence to the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of a child whose mom (or dad!) goes off to a scary place to serve. Jerome tries to show courage when his mom's away on active duty, and he learns that bravery can have LOTS of different meanings. Sometimes he and his dog Duffy have bad days, sometimes they get surprises, sometimes they have accidents, sometimes they get treats. And sometimes they are afraid!

Check out this book; I think you'll be glad you did.
