As this year draws to a close, I am already thinking about how I can get myself ready for next year. I really just want to enjoy my (very short 6 week) summer, and getting a few things out of the way will help me to do that. Each day, during my recess or lunch breaks, I make sure that I do just a little bit to prepare myself for the upcoming school year. Here are a few things that I do:
I have a little packet I send home to parents on the first day of school. It is just filled with all the necessary information about my class that they would need. However, this needs to be run off, collated, and stapled, a task I am not too keen on doing during summer. So I make sure to do this before I leave!
Folders and Boxes
I am a folder junkie! Having the homework folders and other vital ones ready before I go on break helps to get me motivated to work on the things that go in the folders next! I also be sure to cover the ugly, brown cardboard pencil boxes with contact paper as well.
Day One Activities
Morning message, Student Questionnaires, Teacher Comprehension Page, Reading Logs, Math and Comprehension homework......all of these are things I always use, regardless of grade level. So I know that I will need them run off. Might as well do it before I go on vacation...that way I can just pick up and go on the first day!
Those are just a few of the things I do. Come visit me at Teaching in Room 6 to read in more detail exactly how I get ready, and pick up some freebies of each of the things above so you can get started too! (plus, there is an added bonus if you get all the way to the end of the post!)
