Tips for getting the most from a parent/teacher conference

I was a teacher years before I was a parent.  So year after year I prepared for and completed countless parent/teacher conferences with the parents of my students.  Through these experiences, I made mental notes about what worked (and what didn't work) when it came to parents getting the most out of the conferences.  A dozen or so years into my teaching career I was a parent and began attending parent/teacher conferences - as the parent, not the teacher.  This was an odd experience, as I was used to being on the other side of the table!

Through my years in the classroom both as a teacher and as a parent, I learned a few tips and tricks for getting the most out of the parent/teacher conference.  I have tips for busy parents who don't give much thought to the conference before they are actually sitting in the room.  I also have tips for parents to plan days (or weeks!) in advance of the conference and plan out the specific issues they want to address with the teacher.

If you have an parent/teacher conference coming up soon, please head over to my blog for an article on Making the Most Of Your Parent/Teacher Conference.  Also, if you're a teacher with some tips I didn't include, please head on over and leave me a comment with your extra tips!  I'd love to hear from you.
