Guided Math in the Classroom

Have you been looking for a way to effectively support ALL of your students' math learning? I'm sure your classroom is like mine.....readiness levels and needs vary widely. As teachers strive to meet those needs, many are finding the 'traditional' method of teaching math just isn't effective.

Guided Math is a format to math instruction that helps you address the needs of ALL students. It is appropriate for students at any grade level. This video clip will give you a closer look at Guided Math in your classroom.

If our goal is to help each child improve his/her math understanding and performance, it only makes sense that we present the curriculum in a way that makes it accessible to all.

Guided Math, according to Dr. Nicki Newton, "is absolutely one of the best ways to build positive attitudes about math, and as the research tells us, that is so important in terms of student achievement. If students "think they can", they are more likely to keep trying until they can!"

Does this sound like what you want for your students?

Several bloggy friends & I will be hosting a study of the book Guided Math: A Framework for Mathematics Instruction by Laney Sammons.

We're going to be taking a look at Guided Math, how it looks in the classroom, how we can implement it effectively, and sharing our thoughts & ideas.

The fun begins June 11th.
