This year's book will be Guiding Readers: Making the Most of the 18 Minute Guided Lesson by Lori Jamison Rog. I had the opportunity to hear Lori speak at the Reading for the Love of It conference in February this year and was blown away. I immediately went to her publisher's booth and bought the book. But....then life happened. I got busy planning, and marking and generally living life as a teacher and just never found the time to sit down and read this book. Now that summer is almost here for me...14 days!!!... I can finally get to reading it and sharing with all of you.
I hope that many of you can join in with us and read along. The fabulous TBA authors will be hosting the chapters and sharing our thoughts and ideas, plus I will be hosting a linky party for each chapter so that all of you can join in on the posting fun.
To help you decide if you want in on all this book study goodness here are a few links:
Apparently you can read the whole book for free on Stenhouse's website....so everyone can join in!!
Pembroke Publisher's Website- you can also buy an e-book version from the publisher if you wish.
Here is the blurb posted on Pembroke's Website-
Discover a model for guided reading instruction that fits the 18-minute time frame and is purposeful, planned, and focused. This practical book introduces a range of specific reading strategies and processes that lead students to access increasingly sophisticated text. It includes collections of lessons for emergent, early, developing, and fluent readers, as well as struggling readers in the upper grades. Detailed and comprehensive, the book champions an integrated system of guiding readers that involves both fiction and nonfiction, as well as the texts that surround students in and out of school: websites, directions, instructions, schedules, signs, and more. New and experienced teachers will both find a wealth of valuable reproducibles, techniques, tips, and strategies that will help them put the tools for independent reading into the hands of every student.
The fun starts on June 18th! Get your copy of the book soon.
