Have you been wondering about assessments in guided math?
Assessment gives us guidance to developing effective instruction.
When you start planning a unit, do take a close look at the standards, identify what students need to learn, then decide how to assess & evaluate your students' learning?
Chapter 8 is all about using assessments in the framework of Guided Math. I had a few "take aways":
- Have clear expectations & communicate these to your students. I admit, I'm not sure I communicate academic expectations as clearly as I could to my kiddos. Something I need to work on.
- Students should participate in the creation of rubrics & checklists. I have a friend who does this & swears by it.
- Provide descriptive feedback. Feedback needs to be more than correct/incorrect.
