The Power of One

Don't you just love the lazy days of summer?  I most certainly do. But it seems that even Story Time at my local library reminds me of teaching.
Today's story was One by Kathryn Otoshi.  This book is great for so many reasons.  Its simple text and design will introduce the youngest of learners to colors.  But, read on, and you'll discover the true meaning behind this book. It is all about how one; literally and figuratively can stand up to bullying.

Last year, I read this book with my kindergarteners to teach kindness.  We discussed what it meant to be a good friend and what to do if you saw a friend in need. This fall, I envision using the book in conjunction to this wrinkled heart activity.   So, as you begin your back to school planning and shopping, I hope you'll think about using One in your classroom.
