The Reading Olympics

In my class, I try hard to encourage the students to read in any way, shape or form.  I do have a reading log that I give them each night, but I felt like I needed a bit more.  So, when I heard about this program another teacher had created called The Reading Olympics, I just HAD to try it out.

The basic idea behind the program is that the students read 20 books over the course of the school year, completing 20 projects along the way.  The projects are bundled into four levels:  The Olympian, Bronze, Silver, and Gold.  As student progress through the levels, they earn actual medals for their accomplishments.

I have done the Reading Olympics in my room for the past two years, and I have to say, it has been a great thing for my kids.  It is just motivating enough to keep them interested and on track.  Plus, they are reading for fun! (since they can choose any book they wish)

Come on over to my blog to read more about it, and pick up some of the forms you need to get started with it.  See you soon!
